Realistic Portraits for Beginners

What: Learn my favorite techniques, tips, and approaches to help you get started painting realistic portraits in acrylic.  If you are new to portrait painting, I suggest you start watching a painting demonstration before diving into the steps of the painting process. This way you can acquaint yourself with the process before understanding each of the steps.

In this class we will be covering topics like color mixing and color theory, studying values and painting value scales, and most importantly working with transparent layers of glazes to achieve a realistic portrait.

We will explore how to paint 6 portraits with two different approaches! After we learn about the process of painting a portrait, you may use the reference photos I have made available in the form of a download to replicate, or you can create a portrait from your own reference photos.  As always, I have filled this class with my personal casual approach to painting so that you fall in love with your practice and have a system that works for you as a unique artist.

Who:  This class is designed for someone who has some experience with portraiture and who is looking for more instruction and opportunity to paint and practice painting!  If you are new to portrait painting and don’t know about the layering process, then not to worry! I have made sure to include all of the steps for various styles of learning and know that you will find a way that works best for you.

Unlimited access to 3 Modules, (7:38) hours of painting instruction, and an additional free bonus prerequisite course. and Realistic Portraits Facebook community where you can share your work, ask questions and be a part of a warm and welcoming community of students.

Cinematic Portraits

What: Learn my favorite techniques, tips, and approaches to help you get started designing a faux movie poster, and transfer your design where you will paint it in acrylic. If you are new to portrait painting, I suggest you start watching the painting demonstration videos before diving into the steps of the painting process. This way you can acquaint yourself with the process before understanding each of the steps.

In this class we will be covering topics like color mixing and color theory, studying values, painting value scales, designing your piece, and most importantly working with transparent layers of glazes to achieve three-dimensionality, no matter your style.

We will explore how to design and paint 3 fake movie posters using a process that makes it easy to know how to get to the end piece. You may choose how you want to move throughout this course. You may be interested in the design and painting process first, you will find those lessons in the second module of this course. Perhaps, you are interested in starting by watching me paint my portraits, and see the process “in action”, you will find those lessons in the third module, entitled: Demonstrations. I have also included a free pre-requisite course that will get you familiar with the design program we will be using to come up and design our fake movie poster- You may begin there as well. Either way, it is best to take a look around and find a way to move about this course that suits your learning style. This course is meant to be a fun approach to learning about portrait painting, and the biggest learning objective is to have fun while doing so.
