Composition in Art for Beginners

(click to see a preview of the course)

Runtime: 6h 55m

Learn about composition principles. Paint 10-15 sketches to help you practice these principles. When you are done, you will have your painted thumbnail sketch "cheat sheets" to help you remember and apply the principles to your own art.

This course is divided into two parts.

The first part has 10 lessons, including paint-with-me painting studies. The painting studies start off easy and gradually get more complicated as you learn more principles of composition.

In the second part, the Art Masters Study Section, you will watch me paint 5 thumbnail sketches based on famous works by great artists. During these demonstrations, I break down the rules of composition while you see how I approached painting these studies.

Note: This course is taught using gouache acrylic polymer paint. You may also use acrylic paint for this course.

Cinematic Portraits

(click to see a preview of the course)

Runtime: 6h 49m

Cinematic Portraits is the alternative class to Realistic Portraits for Beginners. Cinematic Portraits is geared more toward intermediate and advanced artists or those that have finished Realistic Portraits for Beginners and are looking for the next step.

The main objective of this course is to teach you how to create paintings from your imagination. You will learn how to use free online resources to help you build your ideas. We will be using movie posters as our theme so that you can learn how to compose and composite many reference photos together to create a painting that looks like it was made for a movie poster. Yet, the lessons you will learn can be applied to your own painting ideas and styles.

The course is divided into 2 sections, the lessons, and the demonstrations.

The lessons section of the course is identical to Realistic Portraits for Beginners.

The demonstration section of the course walks you through the concept, composite, and painting of 3 faux movie posters with video voiceover.

Note: This course is taught using acrylic paint. You may also use oil paint for the process I am teaching, yet I do not cover oil painting materials in this course.
