The Harmony Series

Discover the Beauty of Individuality in Unity

Introduction: Welcome to "Harmony," a captivating series of three oil paintings by Beth Gatza that celebrate the rich tapestry of human diversity and the profound connections that bind us together. This visionary project delves deep into the essence of individuality while illustrating the powerful harmonies created when diverse souls come together, much like flowers contributing to the splendor of a garden.

Concept: In "Harmony," Gatza meticulously weaves together portraits of individuals from various walks of life, each chosen for their unique identity and representation of age, beliefs, backgrounds, gender values, and diversity. These individuals are placed within a symbolic garden landscape that mirrors their personality traits or ancestral origins.

The Creative Process: The journey of "Harmony" begins with Gatza's quest to find and photograph these extraordinary individuals. Matching them with botanical imagery from real gardens, the portraits reflect the interplay between human essence and the natural world. Through meticulous Photoshop editing, Gatza merges the images to convey the concept of harmony through connection.

The artistic journey extends further as Gatza spends countless hours at the renowned Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in Southern California. Here, they capture the beauty of botanicals, meticulously documenting their names and places of origin. The painstaking process continues as Gatza spends three months painting each of the three grisaille canvases, creating a mesmerizing grayscale foundation.
